- A woman and young child worked as a team to steal a shopper's cell phone
- The child distracted the woman while her phone was stolen from her handbag
- A case has been opened and the police are investigating
The police are on the lookout for a woman and her young daughter who worked together pickpocket customers in a supermarket.
Briefly.co.za learned that the mom and daughter work together and with practised ease relieve a woman of her phone from her handbag.
The victim, Fazlin Samodien, had gone shopping at Checkers in Rylands on Tuesday night according to the dailyvoice.co.za.
A woman and a young girl, who we presume to be her daughter, worked together to distract Fazlin and take her phone.
In the footage, a woman wearing blue jeans and a red jersey walks past Fazlin while a little girl follows pushing a trolley.
The child begins to distract Fazlin while the woman's hand darts into her handbag and takes her phone. She quickly hides Fazlin's phone all the while smiling at Fazlin.
Fazlin's sister Zubeida Abrahams got hold of the security footage and has since posted it to Facebook, as well as pictures of the alleged master thief.
Abrahams has warned people that this is happening and it could happen to anyone and people like the woman in footage need to be stopped.
She said that her sister was only in the shop for 10 minutes, and what disgusts Abrahams is that she is using a young child in her criminal activities. Abrahams added that the woman drives a red BMW.
Fazlin has laid charges of theft at the Athlone police station and Captain FC van Wyk has confirmed that a case has been opened but no arrests have yet been made.
