- At 22 years old Aaron 'Wheelz' Fotheringham landed the first double backflip in a wheelchair
- Wheelz also spends time helping kids in wheelchairs hone their skills
- He first hit the skatepark in his wheelchair at age eight.
Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, Aaron ‘Wheelz” Fotheringham is 22 years old. He suffers from spina bifida, a birth defect affecting the spine. This led to him being wheelchair bound from avery early age.
It didn't stop him from completing a double backflip in his wheelchair though, becoming the first person to land one.
Aaron is one of six children and went to a skatepark for the first time at age eight. He was watching his older from behind the fence. After his brother challenged him to give it a go, he dropped into the bowl, only to land on his face.
It was enough to get him hooked though. He has pushed himself to do more tricks and finally landed the double backflip in his wheelchair.
Briefly.co.za also learned that Wheelz helps youngsters in wheelchairs to improve their skills in and around the skatepark.
As quoted from BBC news Wheelz said: ”Fear is definitely a huge part of it. It's more than just regular fear, it's 'I'm going to die'."
