Heroic firefighter caught on video risking his life to save a dog on a frozen creek

A dog which decided to have a run around the neighbourhood in Saskatchewan, Canada, got himself into a dangerous situation when he had fallen through the ice which covered a frozen creek.

A firefighter slid across the ice on his belly to reach the dog, as he grabbed the dog the ice collapsed under both of them.

Fortunately the firfighter was secured to a safety rope which allowed his team to pull both of them to safety.

The incident was caught on video by Fire Chief Denis Pilon. The thoroughly soaked pooch scrambled up the bank to his grateful owners. Fortunately the dog was safe and unharmed but it could quite easily have ended in tragedy.

The ice on the creek was normally quite think but due to a brief increase in temperature the thickness of the ice was affected. The dog ran across the creek and fell through.
