Dating preferences in South Africa at least in terms of race has a history shaped by apartheid before the system was abolished apartheid prohibited couples of different races from having a relationship. After 1994 this was no longer the case.
Briefly.co.za learned that it is important not to generalise and state that Afrikaans or English speaking girls wouldn't date African men. South Africa has many multiracial couples and although generally white girls appear to prefer dating white men that is not set in stone.
Brian Dlamini explains that his first girlfriend was a white South African and he was in Grade 7 at the time.
Denzel Bryant believes that most South African girls aren't prepared to date a black man but some are.
Lara Clum adds her opinion stating that race shouldn't be a factor, and that physical attraction is just that, an attraction based on someone's physical appearance. She believes that it doesn't make a white girl racist if she prefers to date a white man.
Race shouldn't be a starting point of a relationship and if someone is with another person largely based on their race then the relationship does not have a very deep emotional connection.
