- A question posted on Quora.com asks how can white people be so hypocritical of black people
- Two answers reveal that there is more to a simple good versus bad argument
- This does not excuse the evil apartheid system of the damage it has done
The community-driven forum Quora has an interesting question posted on the site. Why did white people vote for the national party and do they think less of black people for voting for the ANC?
Mqondisi Gumede believes that it is not fair to paint all white people with the same brush and do not actually think that black people are stupid for voting for the ANC. However, he does point out that a minority of white people do.
He believes they do so for the following reasons:
They did not experience South Africa as the disenfranchised masses did, their experience was a positive one. They now feel disenfranchised and blame the ANC for this.
They have a superiority complex propped up by centuries of black oppression at the hands of Europeans. They feel that the ANC is incapable of running a country.
Some South Africans have a limited experience of their country and have lived in a bubble, segregated from what the real South Africa is.
Videsh Boodu acknowledges that the National Party was evil to institute apartheid, the damage done to families and communities was irreparable. This created a wave of hostility towards the National Party with the ANC as being the logical answer.
However, Videsh also acknowledges that the ANC has become corrupt and has also damaged South Africa, with the victims being the poor and vulnerable.
